In July, three Elite Chess students participated in the 2021 South African Junior Chess Closed online championships. That was hosted by Chess South Africa and Chess South Africa Youth Commission online on Chess.com. In this blog I write about their performances and their 2021 SAJCCC chess results!
The SAJCCC had 3 stages and many top junior players in South Africa participated in the tournament. James (U/12), Emlyn (U/10) and Megan (U/14) played very well, and did their best against the best junior players in their age groups.
Stage 1: 3 – 4 July 2021 (Wild Card) 2021 SAJCCC chess results
A big congratulations to Elite Chess student James Wilson for successfully qualifying to Stage 2 of the SAJCC. He showed great determination and focus in a difficult tournament. With only 10 spots up for grabs to qualify for stage 2, James came 7/35 in the 2021 South African Junior Closed (Wild Card) U12 Open.
An amazing achievement by Elite Chess student, Megan Dove who qualified to stage 2 of the South African Junior Closed. She managed to secure her qualification on day 1 of Stage 1. And on day 2 she won the tournament with a stunning performance of 7 wins, 2 draws and no losses! Megan finished with 8/9 in the 2021 South African Junior Closed (Wild Card) U14 Girls.
Stage 2: 10 – 11 July 2021 (Qualifier) 2021 SAJCCC chess results
A superb performance from Elite Chess student Emlyn Wilson, who qualified to Stage 3 of the South African Junior Closed! Even though the tournament didn’t start well for her, she showed great character to overcome the difficult start. Emlyn won 4 games, drew 1 and lost 2. She came 7/27 in the 2021 South African Junior Closed (Qualifiers) U10 Girls!
Well done to Elite Chess student Megan Dove for qualifying to stage 3 of the 2021 South African Junior Closed! She started very well but things went wrong in the middle of the tournament. Megan showed great character and determination, when she had to win her last 2 rounds of the tournament against tough opponents, in order to qualify to the knockout stage. She came 2/8 in a very tough group of the 2021 South African Junior Closed (Qualifiers) U14 Girls!
Conclusion
James was knocked out in Stage 2 of the tournament in a very tough U12 Open – Group 3.
Emlyn was knocked out in stage 3 of the tournament. But she played against a tough opponent. And she finished in the top 16 U/10 girls in South Africa!
Megan was also knocked out in stage 3 of the tournament. She lost her first game and won the second game! But she lost the tie break game against a very resourceful opponent. She finished in the top 16 U/14 girls in South Africa!
Great performances, full of courage and determination!
